Advancing Next-Generation Oncology Technology Across Africa

Next-Generation Oncology, Delivered Locally

FTS Medical has entered a strategic distribution and project delivery partnership with Specter Healthcare Intelligence AG (SHI) — a global oncology technology company specializing in exclusive representation of next-generation radiotherapy and radiosurgery systems.

Through this partnership, FTS serves as SHI's distribution and project delivery partner across Africa — managing procurement, facility planning, and clinical commissioning for advanced treatment systems that were previously unavailable on the continent.

What SHI Brings to the Partnership

SHI develops exclusive relationships with producers of disruptive oncology technology. Their current portfolio includes solutions across several high-impact treatment categories:

  • Compact proton therapy — a linear proton accelerator designed for precision, reduced footprint, and broader accessibility compared to conventional proton systems

  • MR-guided linear accelerators — advanced systems that combine real-time MRI imaging with radiation delivery, enabling higher treatment precision for moving targets

  • Bunker-free radiosurgery — a self-shielded platform for brain and head-and-neck tumors that eliminates the need for traditional concrete radiation vaults

  • Precision hyperthermia — thermoradiation technology that amplifies treatment dose without added toxicity

  • Automated compounding — closed-loop oncology drug preparation systems for safer, traceable chemotherapy workflows

Beyond equipment distribution, SHI also offers consulting services and partners with Radmed on the design, development, and operation of comprehensive cancer centers — bringing operational expertise and training to newly built facilities.

What FTS Delivers on the Ground

For each project, FTS manages the full delivery cycle within Africa: regulatory navigation, stakeholder coordination, logistics, installation oversight, and clinical commissioning. This includes working with government health ministries, private hospital groups, and development finance institutions to align procurement with local regulatory and infrastructure requirements.

The partnership addresses a specific gap: advanced oncology systems require not only technical installation but also facility-level planning — from radiation shielding specifications to power infrastructure and clinical workflow design. FTS provides this local project management layer, ensuring that international technology reaches functional deployment.

A Regional Impact

Africa's radiotherapy infrastructure remains critically underdeveloped. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, over 20 African countries have no radiation therapy capability at all. Partnerships like this one aim to change that — not through incremental additions, but by introducing treatment platforms designed for efficiency, lower infrastructure requirements, and higher patient throughput.

FTS and SHI are currently evaluating project opportunities across West, East, and Southern Africa.
